University of Utah

I'll tell ya what I remember and then Wes will have to fill in the details when he finds time!

After we flew to the hospital I got taken to a Labor and Delivery room to get some IV's in me. I think on Dec 1st sometime they moved me to a medical ICU room where they kept on eye of me for a while. The doctors said I had a large blood clot in my abdomen so they would have to re-open my incision from the deliver of the babies to get the blood clot out. They also said they may have to take out my uterus if there were any problems, but they didn't have to. They also had to cut up a few more inches to check my liver, which didn't have any tears in it, so it was fine. The surgery went well and they put me into a Surgical ICU room, where I was for most of the stay at the hospital.

There are a lot of blurry moments of my stay in SICU. I remember that I was hot all the time and wanted cold rags on my feet all the time. Wes said I was pretty demanding with the nurses to always re-wet them so they were cold. What can I say? I was hot! :)

I had to start physical therapy a few days after the surgery because my body was so weak and I wasn't used to walking around. I lost a lot of muscle in my legs and arms while I was there. I could barely hold myself up when they Physical Therapists would walk me down the hall. On a couple of my walks I almost fell.

I remember that I was getting blood work all the time, getting MRI's, CAT Scans, ex-rays, ultrasounds, etc. done all the time. I don't think I ever slept because there was always a doctor, nurse, or some kind of person for something in the room all the time.

I was so excited to go to Labor and Delivery because I would finally get some sleep, which I did the first two nights. Then our last night there our nurse was an identical twin and she wanted to tell us everything about her, her twin, their jobs, their stories......
I just wanted to sleep.

When the doctor came in the next morning to tell us we could go home we were so excited, but we were sad that our last night of babyless nights was spent talking to our nurse ALL night long. I think Wes and I each slept for 2-3 hours.

We had a lot of awesome nurses and the doctors were great too! That makes a huge difference! We weren't impressed with Portneuf when we delivered Mikayla and we weren't at Bingham for very long, but our U of U experience was pretty good, considering!

There is a lot more to this story...but Wes will have to write that on up for everyone.

As for now, you will just have to look at the pictures and try to get the most from those! :)

Coming up next...

Pics from the hotel
and
Professional pics of the little ones!

11-30-10

This was when we first got there and they were trying to get all my IV lines in. I was so swollen they weren't able to find any good veins. Wes said they had to bring in a lot of people to work on me. I had about 16 pokes in each arm, about 3 pokes in each foot. Finally they had to cut a vein and pull it out of my arm to get my IV's in.

I swear I'm in there somewhere!!!

This is all the blood from when they pulled the vein out of my arm.

The nurses wanted me to get out of bed and move around as much as possible. Getting from my bed to this chair (a foot away) was one of the hardest things to do! SAD!!!
